Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
— Philippians 4:6
I read a story a few years ago about a man who was boarding a plane. As he got on board, he heard a man call his name. He turned around, and it was an old friend of his who also happened to be the pilot of the plane he was getting on. The passenger knew his friend had been a pilot for years and knew of his many past successes in navigating through dangerous situations. He had flown through combat missions during the war and had flown through electrical storms and equipment problems. He was a great pilot.
Not long after they got airborne on this day, they flew into some major turbulence and storms. It was a very rough ride. Most of the folks on board were terrified. But the man who knew the pilot was much more confident than the others on board. He knew the pilot had handled worse issues than these, and he was confident that he would get home safely. Knowing the pilot made the difference.
Our world today is a stormy one. Every day brings turbulence of some kind. The question during these troubling times is this: Is anyone in control? If so, do we know him? If you are a saved child of God, you can answer that question with a loud yes! You have seen and felt God help you all through your life. He was with you in your victories. And he protected you many times when your way was dark and dangerous.
You have hedged me behind and before, and laid your hand upon me.
— Psalm 139:5
In fact you have learned that the darkness is no problem for our God. As the Psalmist tells us, “ Indeed the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; for the darkness and the light are both alike to you.
— Psalm 139:12
Aren’t you glad that you know the pilot? That should help us present our requests to God through prayer with thankful and confident hearts.
If you have not made the decision to become a follower of Christ, do it today. It is good to know the pilot.
